The Western Cape is gearing up for a major winter storm, expected to make landfall on Wednesday afternoon and will continue throughout the night.
A spokesperson for the Western Cape Government James-Brent Styan says significant rainfall can be expected for the Overberg and Garden Route districts with rainfall reaching up to 45mm in some areas.
He says the rain could lead to flooding of informal settlements and roads in the area.
The South African Weather Services also warned that wind gusts of up to 70km/hour can be expected along the southwest coast with wave heights of up to 5.5 meters along the coast.
The Western Cape Disaster Management Centre (WCDMC) has several contingency plans in place to keep the public as safe as possible and will remain on standby.
The South African Weather Service sporadic, heavy rainfall will likely impact the Overberg region, Garden Route District and parts of the Cape Winelands.
