Langkloof receives welcome overnight rain

Nelson Mandela Bay’s main catchment area in the Langkloof received some welcome rain overnight with between 10 and 23 millimetres recorded.

Joubertina measured 22.8 mm, Kareedouw 10.8 and the Kouga Dam 5 mm.

Weather Office spokesperson Garth Sampson warned, however, that the rain of the past 24 hours will make no difference to the dire water crisis the area finds itself in as the Metro’s main supply dams teeter at around 16% of total combined capacity.

Sampson said showers and thundershowers can be expected at times over most of the Eastern Cape for the next few days.

Up until 8 am on Monday, the Metro, 11.4 mm was measured at the airport and 13.2 mm at third avenue dip in Newton Park.

Further inland, Addo received 15.8 mm, Fort Beaufort 22.2, Makhanda 21 and Graaff-Reinet 5.2.

Elsewhere along the coast, Mossel Bay measured 23.4 mm, George 15.5, Plettenberg Bay a healthy 32.6 and Port Alfred 12.4 mm.
