Welcome rain fell over large parts of the Eastern Cape overnight, including Nelson Mandela Bay’s catchment area in the Langkloof.
The rain could not have come at a better time, with the Metro’s main supply dams currently hovering at around 20% of total combined capacity.
The PE Branch of the SA Weather Service reports that in the Langkloof, the Kouga Dam received 5.5 mm up until 8 am on Tuesday, Patensie 4.6 mm, Kareedouw 2.2 mm and Joubertina just 0.8 mm.
There is the prospect of more rain, however, during the rest of the week.
The Port Elizabeth airport measured 5.4 mm and the 3rd avenue dip in Newton Park, 12.6 mm.
Elsewhere, George received 4.9 mm, Plettenberg Bay 14.8 mm, Bisho/King William’s Town 14 mm and Komani 19.6 mm.
