The Garden Route District municipality's Joint Operation Centre (JOC) will continue to monitor towns in the Garden Route on Tuesday.

This follows heavy rainfall and floods in George and the Mossel Bay area.

According to the latest figures released by the South African Weather Services, George received 115 mm of rain over the last three days while Plettenberg Bay received 52.2 mm

The rainfall figures from Mossel Bay have not yet been finalised.

In a statement, the JOC says residents of The Island in Great Brak River have been placed on high alert as the Wolwedans Dam is overflowing.

Twenty-seven people had to be evacuated in Pacaltsdorp and are currently being accommodated at the community Hall while seven people were evacuated from Thembalethu and four from their home in George.

Meanwhile, teams from the Gift of the Givers are preparing a major intervention along the Garden Route and trucks carrying maize, food parcels, mattresses, hygiene packs, new clothing, blankets, sanitary pads, diapers, water, plastic sheeting and pet food.

The trucks will be arriving from Kimberley, Gqeberha, Graaff-Reinet and Cape Town.

The Montagu pass remains closed and several roads in George will also remain closed before mopping up operations begin.
