Langkloof receives more good rain

Nelson Mandela Bay’s main catchment area in the Langkloof received more good rain at the weekend with 19 mm measured at Joubertina and 8.8 mm falling at Kareedouw.

Local weather office spokesperson Garth Sampson says there’s also the prospect of more rain in the catchment area on Monday and later this week.

It is good news for the Metro’s main supply dams which have shown a gradual increase in the last few weeks and are at 14.82% of total combined capacity, according to the latest figures released by the Municipality on Monday.

In the Metro itself, 8 mm was measured at the airport and 10.4 mm at the third avenue dip in Newton Park while unofficial readings of more than 20 mm were received from elsewhere in the City.

Further inland, Addo received a whopping 50.2 mm with videos doing the rounds on social media showing rivers in the area in spate.

Elsewhere along the coast, Plettenberg Bay measured 15.4 mm and Port Alfred 16.6 mm.

Glorious rain has pumped new life into the Melk River. It is currently running through a farm called Noodhulp in the Camdeboo area just outside Graaff-Reinet and is making its way to dams in Jansenville.
