The SA Weather Service says that after two days of bitterly cold conditions over the Eastern Cape, temperatures will now start to recover with no significant weather or rain expected for the next five days.
PE weather office spokesperson Garth Sampson says Buffelsfontein/Molteno, Aliwal North and Barkley East all recorded minimum temperatures of -10 degrees Celsius this week.
Jamestown recorded an icy -7 and Cradock and Elliot both dipped to -3 degrees.
Sampson said snow is still evident on the high lying ground in the extreme northeast but should melt off in the next day or so as temperatures recover.
The welcome rain showers of the past two days saw a total of 32.8 mm measured at the PE airport.
The southern parts of the Langkloof catchment received between 19 and 45 mm in the Kareedouw region, while further up, Joubertina only received 3 mm and Patensie 5 mm.
The second highest rainfall figure this week after Kareedouw was Cape St Francis with 44.8 mm.
Inland, Cradock received a welcome 10.8 mm.
