The Western Cape Disaster Management Centre has been alerted to several severe weather alerts for regions of the Western Cape.
Disruptive rainfall is expected in the Central Karoo along the Garden Route as well as in the Overberg until late on Friday.
The rainfall is likely to reach between 35mm and 45mm in some of these areas.
Residents who live in the affected areas are urged to limit their travelling and rather stay indoors as localised flooding, strong running water and difficult driving conditions can be expected.
Meanwhile, some reasonable falls were recorded in parts of the broadcast area earlier this week with Plettenberg Bay receiving 17 millimetres of rain and George 14 mm.
Garth Sampson of the PE Weather Office says Karredouw, in the catchment area for Nelson Mandela Bay, only received 3 mm while the PE Airport recorded 8 mm of rain.
He says some rain and showers can be expected from Thursday through to Saturday for most parts of the Eastern Cape.
Some snowfalls are also expected over the high lying areas on Thursday evening, while a strong southerly wind is expected in places over the interior on Thursday and Friday.
Further good news is that the seasonal forecast is looking promising for the rest of the year, for the entire region, with above-average rainfall being forecast.
The Buffalo City Municipality has also urged residents to exercise caution as the South African Weather Services has issued an alert on extreme weather conditions on Friday.
An intense cold front associated with an upper cut-off pressure system is expected to affect some parts of the province this weekend.
Municipal spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya, says there could be localised flooding due to rain with heavier showers, exceeding 50 mm over the southeastern region of the Eastern Cape on Saturday.
He warns that driving conditions will be treacherous, especially on dirt roads.
