Disaster teams on standby as another storm heads to WC

The Western Cape Disaster Management Centre is on standby yet again after another weather warning was issued for the Province this weekend.

The South African Weather Services (SAWS) says the cold front is expected to make landfall tonight and will result in rainfall spread across the western province over the entire weekend.

The Overberg Region is again expected to bear the brunt, with the most affected areas being Overstrand, Langeberg, Stellenbosch, Swellendam and Cape Agulhas where rainfall of between 30-50 mm are expected.

The Minister for local government Anton Bredell says the areas that were worst hit by last week’s storm will receive a lot of rain again.

The first winter storm which hit the Western Cape earlier this month resulted in two deaths, localised flooding and several evacuations.
The weather system is expected to reach the Eastern Cape by Sunday and local weather office spokesperson Garth Sampson says between five and ten millimetres of rain can be expected in places.
