An intense cold front associated with rainy and very cold conditions with snow will spread towards the Eastern Cape on Friday.
Very cold conditions are expected from Friday with snowfalls over the high-lying areas of the Western Cape spreading to the high-lying areas of the Eastern Cape and the Drakensberg region of KwaZulu-Natal during Saturday.
A spokesperson for SA Weather Garth Sampson says a significant lowering of local atmospheric freezing levels is anticipated, allowing for disruptive snowfall in some places.
This may result in the closure of some mountain passes and cause traffic disruptions.
Small stock farmers are advised to move their smaller livestock to shelter at an early stage to mitigate losses, ahead of the arrival of the winter weather.
Warnings Thursday:
Damaging winds in places over Joe Gqabi District Municipality; Chris Hani DM; Dr Beyers Naude LM; Blue Crane Route LM and the Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality.
The strong winds can result in damage to local settlements and result in difficult driving conditions due to dust and the possibility of fallen objects on the road.

Moderate to disruptive snowfalls are expected over the high lying areas of the Eastern Cape that could result in passes being closed from Friday night into Sunday morning.
Disruptive rain is expected that can lead to flooding in the Alfred Nzo District Municipality; OR Tambo DM; Buffalo City Metro; Amathole DM; Intsika Yethu LM; Emalahleni LM; Engcobo LM; Sakhisizwe LM; Senqu LM and Elundini LM.
