A week of winter predicted for Eastern Cape


Very cold temperatures can be expected across large parts of South Africa from Tuesday which will last into the weekend.
Light snowfalls are expected over the southwestern mountain peaks on Tuesday morning, with bitterly cold conditions likely to set in over much of the interior of the Western Cape.

Showers are expected to reach the western parts of the Eastern Cape later, spreading to the Sneeuberg and Winterberg.

Light snowfall is also expected in high-lying areas and mountain ranges of the western parts of the Eastern Cape, including the Tsitsikamma, Kouga, Sneeuberg and Winterberg mountains.

  • Warnings for Wednesday:
    Disruptive snowfall is expected over Lootsberg, Wapadsberg, Penhoek, Outeniqua, Nico Malan and Winterberg on Wednesday.
  • Small harbours could be disrupted by a coastal wind of between 55-65km/h between Plettenberg Bay and East London.

Warnings for Thursday:

  • Disruptive snowfall is expected over Lootsberg, Wapadsberg, Penhoek, Outeniqua, Nico Malan, Winterberg passes as well as gravel road passes in the Tsitsikamma, Outeniqua and Baviaanskloof mountains.
  • Rain can lead to flooding of roads and settlements along the coast and adjacent interiors between Plettenberg Bay and Fish River.
