World Cup Rugby referee Wayne Barnes has announced his retirement after 20 years.
Barnes made special mention of Saturday's iconic World Cup final between South Africa and New Zealand calling it one of the greatest honors of his career.
In a brief statement issued on X, Barnes said it was time to spend weekends with his wife and children who have sacrificed so much for far too long.
He said he would continue advocating for referees and work closely with the International Rugby Match Officials' Association.
His career spanned over five World Cups and 26 Six Nations.
Last Saturday was the first time he officiated in a Rugby World Cup final, a fitting way to retire.
