The Proteas have been dubbed the ‘come back kids’ after dramatically losing the first test against New Zealand but bouncing back with a 198 run win at the Hagley Oval on Tuesday.
Supersport.com reports that victory looked assured when four wickets fell quickly in the afternoon following the dismissal of Devon Conway, who was trapped LBW to Lutho Sipamla ahead of the luncheon interval.
The home side made 293 in their first innings and 227 in their second innings while the Proteas, who suffered a humiliating defeat in the first test, made 364 in the first innings and declared their second innings on 354 for 9.
Kagiso Rabada was named man of the match. He took three wickets for 46 runs in the second innings while Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj also had three-wicket hauls.
Rabada was in devastating form in the first innings with 5/60 in 19 overs.
There were two centurions for the Proteas in Sarel Erwee, with 108 in the first innings for his maiden ton, and Kyle Verrynne, who was not out on 136 - also for his maiden test century - in the second innings.
