South Africa beat West Indies by four wickets in the third Betway One Day International at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on Tuesday.
That was largely thanks to Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten 119 off 61 balls to take the game away from the visitors.
His knock included five sixes and 15 fours after racing to his ton in just 54 balls.
“Pretty good wicket and probably one of my better knocks, so very happy,” Klaasen said in the post-match interview on Supersport.
“We have ourselves to blame,” said Windies captain Shai Hope, lamenting the loss after a good win in the second ODI in East London.
Klaasen, who was also named Man of the Match, was ably supported by Marco Jansen who made 43 runs off 33 balls before losing his wicket.
Other contributions came from stand-in captain, Aiden Markram, who made 25, Tony de Zorzi chipped in with 21, while David Miller made 17 and Rassie van der Dussen, 14 off 8 balls.
Markram, wearing the captain’s armband after Temba Bavuma was sidelined with a hamstring injury, said it worked out well in the end.
He paid tribute to Klaasen for his knock, after coming in when South Africa was in a spot of bother on 87 for four, adding that the bowlers also did a good job to restrict the Windies to 260 runs.
The two teams shared the spoils after the first Betway ODI in East London was rained out.
The first of three T20 internationals start on Saturday, 25 March at Centurion which will also host the second match, before the final T20 in Johannesburg.
