Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos did not avail himself to answer questions from the media after the Afcon clash against Liberia which ended in a 2-2 draw on Friday night.
The South Africans squandered a two-goal lead after Burnley striker, Lyle Foster, got a brace, opening with a penalty around the 11-minute mark, and slotting his second goal in the 22nd minute of the match.
However, Bafana let the lead slip as Liberia came back in the second half to level the match in the 68th minute and then a minute into extra time.
Broos meanwhile did not initially pitch up for the post-match interview, sparking an outcry from the media. He emerged a few minutes later but only to deliver a brief statement, citing his immense disappointment at the outcome as the reason for his initial absence.
“If I should say now what I think, it would not be nice,” he said.
A glum-looking Broos said he was always ready in the past to deal with the questions from the media, even the difficult ones.
“I hope you understand that today it’s very difficult for me to do that. So again, sorry for that but I hope when you saw the game, when you saw what happened on the pitch today, you can understand my reaction,” he said before leaving.
Supersport pundits, including former Bafana Bafana star, Matthew Booth, said the coach’s behaviour was unacceptable.
