The Proteas imploded on the third day of the first test at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Saturday, as they were bowled out for 111 in their second innings by a brutal New Zealand bowling attack before lunch, to succumb to massive innings and 276-run defeat.
The South Africans were reduced to 102/8 when lunch should have been taken, but the Black Caps opted for the extra half hour to finish off the beleaguered visitors.
Tim Southee took the final wicket to end with figures of 5/35.
The second and final test begins at the same venue on 25 February.
