Jo'burg Open: Sunshine Tour
The Sunshine Tour and DP World Tour on Friday announced changes to the current Summer Swing of co-sanctioned tournaments due to South Africa being placed on the UK and EU travel red list following concerns around a new COVID-19 variant.
Despite a number of UK-based players pulling out of the Jo'burg Open currently being played at Randpark Golf Club, the event will go ahead as planned and will finish on Sunday as scheduled as a full co-sanctioned tournament between the two tours.
Next week's SA Open at Sun City will now be a Sunshine Tour event only with prize money dramatically slashed while the Alfred Dunhill Championship the week thereafter at Leopard Creek has been cancelled all together.
Meanwhile: The Vodacom United Rugby Championship has announced that this weekend's round six matches in South Africa and next weekend's round seven matches have all been postponed because of the new variant.
Organisers say they are now working with the four visiting clubs - Cardiff, Munster, Scarlets and Zebre Parma - to facilitate their return home as soon as possible.
And, the remainder of the 3-match ODI series between the Proteas and the Netherlands now also hangs in the balance.
Match one at Centurion was washed out on Friday afternoon with the Netherlands 11 without loss in pursuit of South Africa's 277 for 8 which saw Kyle Verreynne top score with 95.
Both cricket boards say a decision on the continuation of the series will follow in the next 24 to 48 hours, while all flight options for the visitors are being considered.
