SA Rugby and its Director of Rugby, Rassie Erasmus, have apologised to Australian rugby referee, Nic Berry, and the other match officials who officiated in the first test against the British and Irish Lions.
The parties also confirmed on Thursday that they will no longer appeal the tough sanctions imposed on Erasmus for his lengthy, leaked video, in which he hits out at Berry and TMO, Marius Jonker’s handling of the match.
Erasmus was found guilty by the IRB on all six charges and suspended from all rugby-related activities for two months and also given a match-day ban until 30 September 2022.
SA rugby was fined the equivalent of R418 000.
In a statement on Thursday, Erasmus and SA Rugby said, “this has been a highly stressful and charged environment with unusual pressures placed on all concerned and we have no wish to prolong that experience for anyone.”
“We have drawn a line under the incident and only wish to look forward. We will respect the outcomes of the hearing, allowing our national teams and rugby operations to plan with clarity for the coming months.”
