Sunrisers EC all-rounder Marco Jansen produced the innings of the Betway SA20 to date as he helped the Eastern Cape franchise to a thrilling two wicket win over MI Cape Town at Newlands on Wednesday afternoon.
The St George's Park-based Sunrisers were chasing a challenging 172 for victory and looked dead-and-buried when Jansen turned the game on its head in the 16th over.
The Proteas fast bowler and devastating lower-order batsman climbed into one of the best spinners in the world in Rashid Khan, smashing him for 4 sixes and a boundary in an over which realised 28 runs and totally changed the complexion of the game.
Jansen was ultimately bowled by KG Rabada off the final ball of the 19th over for a sensational knock of 66 runs off 27 balls with 7 sixes and 3 fours.
That left four runs required off the final over which were comfortably negotiated by the two seasoned campaigners Sisanda Magala and Roelof van der Merwe as the Sunrisers finished on 172 for 8 in 19.3 overs.
Its back to back wins for the Sunrisers over MI Cape Town and they are now firmly in the tournament shake-up after the early setback of losing their opening two matches to the Pretoria Capitals.
The Sunrisers' Orange Army of supporters will no-doubt descend on St George's Park for a thrilling double-header this weekend with both matches starting at 17h30.
On Saturday, the Sunrisers host the Joburg Super Kings and on Sunday they entertain the Durban Super Giants.
