Humewood returns to Sunshine Tour schedule

The Sunshine Tour has announced a brand new event on its calendar which will be played at Humewood in Port Elizabeth in early October.

The 600-thousand rand Boardwalk Challenge will be played from Wednesday 8 to Friday 10 October and will feature the cream of South Africa's stay-at-home professionals.

Sunshine Tour Communication's Director Duncan Cruickshank says Humewood is a unique venue and that the professionals are looking forward to returning to the links which last hosted the SA Open in 2006 - won by Ernie Els.

Cruickshank told AlgoaFM sport its part of a Sun International series of events that the Tour offers around the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
Other events in the series include the Wild Waves Challenge at the Wild Coast Sun and the Nedbank Affinity Cup at Lost City.
Cruickshank said Sun International was looking to put on another event and that the Boardwalk and Humewood made total sense. "We're absolutely delighted to be coming back to PE, its been far too long that the tour hasn't been there."

Cruicksank said the professionals were so looking forward to playing Humewood with its proud reputation of being one of the great links layouts in South Africa, if not the world.

He added that the Sunshine Tour has a number of plans for Port Elizabeth and that they've been working hard to get an event to the city, ever since the rumour started two years ago that the Nelson Mandela Championship (now played in KZN) was coming to the friendly city. He said they certainly did not envisage coming in for one year and then not coming back, so would certainly be around for a number of years.
