Proteas Test captain Graeme Smith has announced an end to his 347-match international career, which will take affect after the current Test series against Australia.
33 year-old Smith broke the news to his team-mates after close of play on Monday on day three of the third and final test against Australia at Newlands.
He said it was the most difficult decision he'd ever had to make, but one he'd been considering since ankle surgery in April last year.
Smith added that he had a young family to consider and that he felt retiring at Newlands would be the best way to end it because its a place he's called home since he was 18 years old.
Smith made his first-class debut for South Africa at the age of 21, has 17,228 International runs to his name and is also the most capped Test captain in the history of the game with 109.
