EP Cricket has announced the removal of three directors from the 12-member board.

This followed a unanimous decision by the Board in the wake of the findings of two inquiries headed by retired judges against EP Cricket Board members, Rafiek Potgieter, Dai Tai Marais, and Leon Miggels.

In a statement on Tuesday, EP Cricket said their removal followed a finding by Judge Bernard Ngoepe, clearing the present and former EP Cricket Board members and officials of claims of impropriety made by the three regarding the establishment of sports management agency, Mega Sportz NPC.

According to the statement, a separate disciplinary process led by retired judge Ronnie Pillay found that "the actions of all three either individually or together deprives the Board of operating as it should.

"The behaviour, in many ways, constitutes conduct unbecoming of company directors. It clearly suggests the existence of a secret or malfeasant agenda which is a threat to the business of the Board."

EP Cricket said the board resolution to dismiss the Directors was passed on 5 October.

"EP Cricket can now focus on growing support for the game in the Eastern Cape," said EP Cricket President, Leon Coetzee.

He said notwithstanding the attempts by the former directors, Mega Sportz NPC has initiated and secured major sponsorships for the benefit of cricket in the region.

“Since becoming operational in September 2022, it continues to focus on the implementation of EPC's Financial Sustainability Programme.

"These include the securing of DAFABET as a naming rights sponsor for the DAFABET St Georges Stadium as well as the DAFABET Warriors for a three-year term, managing successfully the first season of the SA20 competition and the ICC Women's T20 World Cup as well as non-cricket events.

EP Cricket said the three dismissed board members have the right to approach a court to review the decision.
