The Two Oceans Marathon Committee has announced the cancellation of the 2021 event, which had been scheduled to take place in Cape Town on the 3rd of April this year.
It’s the second year in a row that one of the most scenic and popular Ultra Marathons and Half Marathons in the world has been cancelled because of Covid-19.
The Committee says it was guided by advice from its medical team and the Two Oceans Marathon chief medical officer as the pandemic continues to rage across the country.
It says a postponement to the second half of the year was considered but was deemed unfeasible given the uncertainty due to talk of third and fourth COVID-19 waves and the already congested event calendar during that period.
The Two Oceans Marathon team said it was now planning alternative events and programmes to be hosted within the prevailing regulations.
