Proteas captain AB de Villiers blasted his way into the record books today with the fastest 150 in ODI history as South Africa posted 408 for 5 in their 50 overs in their World Cup Pool B clash against the West Indies at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Their total is also the highest one day score ever on Australian soil and the second highest in the history of the world cup.
De Villiers finished on 162 not out of 66 deliveries with 17 fours and eight sixes.
He found a willing ally in Rilee Rossouw, who made 61 off 39 balls, as South Africa took the game away from the Windies.
Hashim Amla made 65 and Faf du Plessis 62 at the top of the order but when they departed in quick succession to Chris Gayle, the Proteas were wobbling at 146 for 3 in the 30th over.
De Villiers and Rossouw then turned the match on its head with a 4th wicket partnership of 134 runs in just 12 and a half overs.
The West Indies run chase is currently underway.
