Parliament postpones Phala Phala vote as Ramaphosa heads to Concourt

The National Assembly's Programming Committee (NAPC) has decided to defer the consideration of the Section 89 Panel report on Phala Phala to the 13th of December.

Spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says an urgent meeting was convened on Monday where it was decided that next week's meeting will be fully physical with no provision for virtual participation.

He says the National Assembly will secure a suitable venue that will accommodate all members and voting will be done by means of an open ballot and a roll call.

On Monday the ANC's National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved that its caucus would vote against adopting the panel report.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has since applied to the Constitutional Court to have the report reviewed.

The NEC said no decision was taken for Ramaphosa to step down, not as party President or as Head of State.

The Speaker appointed the independent panel following a motion by the African Transformation Movement (ATM) to initiate an inquiry into the removal of the President on specific charges.

Ramaphosa remains under a cloud after criminal charges were laid against him related to the break-in and theft at his game farm.
