Police in Cradock are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the four men who allegedly entered the home of the Speaker of the Inxuba Yethemba Municipality while she was chairing a Council meeting last Friday.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, says they face a charge of housebreaking with intent to commit a crime.
He says police are appealing for information on the identity of the four suspects.
Meanwhile, Democratic Alliance MPL, Vicky Knoetze, says Speaker, Thembekazi Mbotya, was conducting an online council meeting when the four invaded her home for about 30 minutes and the meeting was subsequently abandoned.
She says part of the agenda related to the re-appointment of the former Chief Financial Officer, whom Council had previously resolved never to appoint again.
Hundreds of community members marched to the municipal offices on Monday in protest over this and ongoing service delivery issues.
Knoetze has called for the Co-operative Governance and Traditional MEC, Xolile Nqatha's intervention.
She said the situation was serious and could erupt at any moment.
