The Eastern Cape ANC has suspended all branch general meetings in Nelson Mandela Bay, following the murder and attempted murder of two of their Councillors this past weekend.
Ward 20 councillor, Mzwandile Booi was shot and killed in Kwazakhele on Sunday night by unknown gunmen while 52-year-old Mazwi Mini sustained minor injuries after he was shot at his Kariega home on Saturday.
The party has since condemned the violence and appealed for calm.
Provincial General Secretary, Lulama Ngcukayitobi says the ANC's Provincial Working Committee has decided that all Branch General Meetings in the Region must be put on hold until a proper assessment has been done of interventions to calm the situation down.
He says they are hoping this move will prevent further risk of harm to people's lives.
