Andile Lungisa suspended from ANC for 18-months

ANC heavyweight, Andile Lungisa, has been suspended from the party for 18-months.

The Provincial Disciplinary Committee said Lungisa violated the ANC's constitution after being found guilty of grievous bodily harm by the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court in 2018.

The former Nelson Mandela Bay councillor was found guilty of smashing a glass jug over the DA's Rayno Kayser at a now-infamous council brawl in 2016 and sentenced to two years in prison.

Lungisa appealed his sentence at the Constitutional Court, where he lost last year.

He was eventually sent to prison and only served two months of his two-year sentence.

Lungisa was released on parole after the Department of Correctional Service classified him as a first time offender with a positive support system.

The ANC seems to be of a different view as it has directed him to attend anger management classes for a year as part of his rehabilitation process.

Before this decision, the ANC in the Eastern Cape suspended Lungisa from his position as a councillor in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Provincial Secretary, Lulama Ngcukaitobi, said he was aware that Lungisa had filed an appeal with the National Disciplinary Committee of the ANC.
