Zeranza confirms concert postponement

Organisors of the M-Bay Megafest have officially confirmed that the concert planned for the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium this weekend has been postponed.

The CEO of Zeranza SA, Andrea Wessels, says a new date for the concert, featuring stars like Ne-yo, Shaggy and Ludacris, is yet to be decided.

But, she said in a long-awaited statement that June has been ruled out.

Wessels says tickets purchased will remain valid for the new concert date and that purchased tickets would be honoured at the gate.

She says the international artists' fees had been paid in full into a trust account which would be disbursed to the artists after their performances "as per agreement, which is binding."

She said the artists remained "very keen" to perform in South Africa and the concert will happen.

Wessels apologised to fans who had bought tickets and made travel arrangements from across South Africa to attend.

"The decision to postpone was not made lightly'', she said.

"The postponement gives us a chance to market more widely and ensure that when the concert does take place it is not only economically viable for us and many local suppliers who benefit, but that the experience for fans and artists of a full stadium will be fitting of what is a globally noteworthy occasion."

"A postponement was the wisest decision under the circumstances and we trust that fans will appreciate the sincerity of the decision and our apology for inconvenience caused.''

Wessels said tickets purchased would remain valid for the new concert date and that purchased tickets would be honoured at the gate.

"Those who need the cash can also get a full ticket refund from Computicket or the outlet from which they purchased the ticket, no quibble,'' Wessels said.

She said the company would alert residents as soon as a new date for the megafest was established.
