NMB mayor faces no confidence vote

A motion calling for the removal of Nelson Mandela Bay's Executive Mayor, Eugene Johnson, and her deputy, Buyelwa Mafaya is expected to be tabled at a special council meeting next week.

The motion of exigency for the council to approve the tabling of the motion-of-confidence next Wednesday was debated and voted on in Tuesday's Council sitting.

ACDP councillor, Lance Grootboom, tabled the motion which was seconded by Freedom Front Plus councillor, Bill Harrington.

The item was put to a vote which resulted in a tie when 60 councillors voted in favour and another 60 voted against it.

This left the deciding vote to Council Speaker, Garry Van Niekerk, who supported the motion.

GOOD Party councillor, Lawrence Troon, said it "was the best thing that could happen to this Metro."
