A 17 year-old youth has died after diving off Shark Rock Pier at Hobie Beach in Port Elizabeth.
The NSRI's Craig Lambinon says the young man began struggling in the water after he jumped from the pier on New Year's Day.
His 25-year-old friend dived in after him to try and help him but also got into difficulty.
Bystanders rescued the 25 year-old but the 17 year-old was last seen by eye-witnesses lying face down in the water and being swept out to sea by rip currents.
Despite extensive searches, there were no further sighting of the teenager.
Police warrant officer Alwin Labans says his body was found by members of the public at about six o'clock on Friday morning.
