Young woman in Plett court following drug bust

A 21-year-old woman will appear in court in Plettenberg Bay on Friday after police found mandrax and cocaine worth an estimated R1.1 million in her luggage.

She was hauled off a bus at the Tsitsikamma Toll Gate on Thursday morning by members of the Western Cape Rural Flying Squad , who stopped the bus for a routine search.

Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, says they found 6.9 kilograms of Mandrax tablets and just more than 458 grams of cocaine in her luggage.

He says the woman boarded the Citiliner bus in Durban and was en route to Cape Town.

"The George Cluster Commander, Major General T Patekile applauded the members for their diligence in bringing this alleged drug pedlar to book. "This shows real commitment and dedication of vigilant members. "We shall continue our efforts to harshly act against those who threaten the safety and health of our communities by peddling and selling illegal drugs on our streets" he said.
