Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance MEC, Fikile Xasa, has laid down the law to councillors of the Sundays River Valley Municipality.
He's instructed them to engage in serious conversation with communities about municipal programmes to avoid the breakdown of communication, which led to a violent riot in Kirkwood last month in which a municipal building and an ANC office were torched.
MEC Xasa held talks with the Sundays River Valley Municipality on Thursday, and according to a statement, a public participation process is planned this month where all stakeholders will be in attendance to outline Municipal programmes, including challenges to local communities.
The meeting was attended by Executive Mayor of Sara Baartman District Municipality, Eunice Kekana, her Speaker and senior managers from Sunday River Valley Municipality.
