A 22 year old man from Alice in the Eastern Cape is missing and is presumed to have drowned at Eastern Beach, East London.
NSRI East London station commander Geoff McGregor says their volunteer rescue duty crew, Police K-9 dog rescue unit and Buffalo City Municipal Fire and Rescue were activated at about quarter to seven on Saturday morning.
They'd received eye-witness reports of a man who had gone for a swim and gotten into difficulty and then disappeared under water.
He said an extensive sea and shore search had so far revealed no sign of the man but that the search would continue.
The NSRI is warning beach goers along the entire Eastern Cape coast of a full moon spring tide at the moment which brings much stronger than normal rip-currents.
Storm seas have also been brought on by a series of cold fronts and bathers, anglers, boaters and paddlers are advised to exercise extreme caution.
