The National Sea Rescue Institute said a man in his twenties has died after jumping off a cliff ledge at Jan se Gat Waterfall on the Kabeljous River at Jeffreys Bay.
Spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said it is believed that he “may have struck his head on a rock before landing in the water.”
He said their NSRI Jeffreys Bay rescue vehicle, and a range of role-players including EMS and Private ambulance services, SAPS, and Jeffreys Bay Fire and Rescue Services responded to the scene on Sunday.
Lambinon said a husband and wife came across the man, and after he was recovered from the water paramedics commenced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation efforts.
“After all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted sadly he was declared deceased. The body of the man has been taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services,” Lambinon said.
The NSRI conveyed its condolences to the family of the deceased who is from Gqeberha.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
