A 9-year-old Gqeberha girl has been wounded by a stray bullet fired during a shootout between rival gangs.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the incident happened on Friday night at around 8.30 in Helenvale.
She said the girl was at the corner at Deverell Road in Helenvale when she was hit in the thigh.
“It is alleged that two rival gangs were shooting at each other when the bullet struck her,” Naidu said.
She said the child was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle and was treated and discharged.
“A case of attempted murder is under investigation,” Naidu said.
