A 14-year-old holidaymaker from the Limpopo province was rescued after being caught in a rip current at Wilderness on the Garden Route, late Tuesday afternoon.
The NSRI's Wilderness Duty Coxswain, Garth Dominy, says three lifesavers swam out to the boy, and took him to a safe zone behind the wave back line, where they waited for a rescue boat.
The incident happened between Wilderness main beach and Leentjies Klip.
Netcare 911, ER24 and the local METRO ambulance service also responded.
The child was taken to George provincial hospital in a stable condition.
