A young hijacking suspect is under police guard in a Port Elizabeth hospital after being seriously injured in an horrific accident at the top of Target Kloof.
The accident happened opposite Clarendon Park Primary School on Friday morning.
Police Spokesperson Captain Johan Rheeder says the suspect, believed to be approximately 20 years old, was seen hurtling up Target Kloof towards Walmer when it lost control and struck a white SUV and a lamp post.
The VW ripped the lamp post clean out the ground and then struck a tree.
The drama started at around 7 o clock in the morning when a 21-year-old woman was hijacked in Parliament-street in Central.
The family in the SUV were treated for their injuries on the scene. The couple, in their forties, were on their way to drop their 15-year-old daughter off at school.
The truck driver was not injured.
Police are investigating a case of hijacking and reckless/ negligent driving.
