Police in Elliot arrested a 22-year-old suspect who robbed a local chain store with two of his friends.
Police spokesperson Captain Ursula Roelofse said the armed robbery happened on Thursday afternoon.
The men entered the store and held up staff before filling up three carry bags full of goods.
Alert community members saw what was happening and alerted police.
Roelofse said when police arrived two of the suspects dropped their goods and fled on foot.
Officers managed to arrest one of the three and also confiscated a 9mm pistol.
All the stolen goods including cash and 67 cell phones were recovered with a total value of R80 000.
