Eastern Cape police have launched a manhunt for the gunmen who shot and killed seven people, including an eight-year-old child.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Nxanxashe location at Willowvale.
She said five people, including a male child, and a woman, were found shot to death inside a Mazda 3, while another victim was found dead about a kilometre away inside a Toyota Fortuner.
Naidu said an abandoned VW Polo was found not too far from the scene with blood stains inside.
The deceased were aged between eight and 45.
She said the motive for the multiple shootings is still unknown and the names of the deceased will be released once their next of kin has been informed.
Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene, said the Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Investigation Unit will be investigating the case.
“The team of experienced detectives will be working tirelessly to uncover the truth behind these senseless killings.
“We are committed to providing the necessary resources and support to ensure a thorough and swift investigation,” Mene said.
