East London man shot and killed during home invasion

File

A fifty-three-year-old East London man was shot and killed during a home invasion in Braelyn in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says a witness was watching television when he heard a vehicle stop outside just after midnight.

She says a few minutes later, somebody pulled open the lounge window.

He got up to investigate and saw the arm of the suspect moving the curtain.

The suspect was armed.

Colonel Naidu says the witness fetched a spade and hit the suspect while shouting at him.

She says the 53-year-old victim was awakened by the commotion and went to investigate when the suspect shot him in the upper body before fleeing.

The man died at the scene.

Cambridge police are investigating a case of murder.
