A senior Gqeberha policeman is in stable condition in hospital after being shot during a robbery outside his Motherwell home.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the officer is a Station Commander from the Nelson Mandela Bay District.
She said the Lieutenant-Colonel and his wife had turned into the driveway of their house in Unit 7 in Motherwell home on Friday afternoon.
Naidu said when his wife got out of the car to open the gate, a white Suzuki hatchback vehicle also turned into the driveway.
“A suspect alighted and approached the officer demanding his firearm. The officer was shot in his arm before the suspect fled with two cell phones taken from the vehicle,” Naidu said.
A case of attempted murder and robbery is under investigation by the Provincial Serious and Violent Investigation Unit.
Police also appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
“We urge anyone with information related to this incident to come forward. Any details, no matter how small, could be crucial in our investigation,” said Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant-General, Nomthetheleli Mene.
