Two people have drowned and one remains missing after they went swimming in the surf zone in Summerstrand in Gqeberha.
Spokesperson for the NSRI Craig Lambinon says on Sunday at about 6.19 pm various role-players including Coastal Water Rescue and SAPS responded to the scene.
He says on arrival, rescue swimmers launched into the surf conducting sweeping line-free dive search efforts.
After an extensive search the bodies of two adults, a man and a woman, were located and recovered.
They were both declared deceased and their bodies were taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg identified the victims as 26-year-old Blessing Charumbira and 21-year-old Nomphumelelo Malandisa.
She says the search for a third victim, a man, continues.
An inquest docket was opened.
