Greenacres Centre Management has confirmed that it's conducting an investigation into an incident involving a member of the public and a security official this week.
A video of the altercation between a man, who said he and his 18-month old daughter had been pepper-sprayed by the security official, who is seen with a drawn fire-arm, had been posted on Youtube.
Centre Manager Brent Starr said Fidelity Guards are contracted to provide services at Greenacres Shopping Centre.
He said there will be further communication from Greenacres Centre Management once their probe has been completed.
In the video the aggrieved father is seen confronting the armed security official in a street after he earlier nearly ran them over while they were walking over a pedestrian crossing at the Centre.
After confronting the security official about this, he allegedly sprayed the man and his daughter with pepper-spray and fled the scene.
In a statement on Facebook, Fidelity Guards, said the security guard, who is named in the video, has been removed.
It also said that a thorough investigation into the incident is also being conducted.
Meanwhile, the man's wife, Mei de Klerk, told Algoa FM News that after the close shave in the parking lot, her husband approached the security guard about this.
"As he bent over to speak to him (guard), he pepper-sprayed my husband while he was holding my daughter. And, I don't know what happened at the time because he (guard) just took off, drove off. My husband put my daughter down and tried to run and follow him but before he could catch up he was already gone."
According to text on the Youtube video, De Klerk's husband, spent about 15 minutes chasing after the guard before he caught up with him in a street.
De Klerk said while her husband had chased after the security guard, she was assisted by members of the public.
"She was hit all over her chin, a little part of her face and neck. After that when my husband caught him on camera, he came back and then we reported it. We went to the hospital and we have all the reports from the hospital," said De Klerk.
