Yet another teacher duped out of pension money

The Hawks are looking for a foreign national who goes by the name of Karen after she allegedly convinced a 56-year-old teacher to resign from the Department of Education and hand over his pension money of about 730 thousand rand.

Spokesperson CaptainAnelisa Feni says in September this year, Karen promised to perform a cleansing ritual to the ancestors, so that they could multiply his money.

She says later in the same month the 39-year-old Ismail Kidiya Manafa made contact with the retired teacher to inform him that he took over from Karen as his traditional healer.

Manafa, who was arrested in Port Elizabeth on the 20th of December, asked the victim for R27 000 to continue with the process and allegedly took all his furniture to cover the payment.

Feni says Manafa has already appeared in court and will be back on the 3rd of January to apply for bail.

This is not the first such case to be reported to police, in fact, this modus operandi from so-called traditional healers have been going on for years with several government employees who have parted with their pensions.
