The Checkers store in 6th Avenue in Walmer in Port Elizabeth was closed on Thursday after an employee tested positive for COVID19.
This was confirmed to Algoa FM News by the Shoprite Group.
National Spokesperson Surita van Wyk says the National Institute of Communicable Diseases ( NICD), as well as the Department of Health, were informed.
The store closed immediately and a professional decontamination company has been brought in to sanitize and deep clean.
Van Wyk says the store will be reopened in consultation with the Provincial Department of Health.
An employee screening programme supported by the company’s mobile clinic has immediately been put into place.
Those staff members who had close contact with the infected person are now in self-quarantine for 14 days.
