Former tennis star and convicted rapist, Bob Hewitt, is expected to be released on parole from a prison in Port Elizabeth on Friday.
The 80-year-old Hewitt, who was found guilty for raping and sexually assaulting three if his former tennis students, was granted parole last month after serving just over three years of his six-year sentence.
One of his victim's Olivia Jasriel says she lodged a complaint with the parole board as she believes that Hewitt has shown no remorse.
Jasriel says the Department of Correctional Services has done her a great injustice as parole is not a right, but should be earned.
Meanwhile, Department of Correctional Services spokesperson, Singabhako Nxumalo, says parole candidates released during the lockdown period will be transported straight to their residence to ensure that the transmission of COVID -19 is limited.
He says officials transporting them will also be subject to screening for the virus prior to and after transporting them, adding that the parole board will not place any new parole dates until the lockdown is lifted.
Hewitt who lives in the Eastern Cape will spend the remainder of his sentence in the system of community corrections and must comply with a specific set of conditions under correctional supervision until his sentence expires.
Earlier this month, Nxumalo confirmed the fist positive case of COVID19 at St Albans.
Hewitt will also be screened before his release.
