One person has been killed and 12 Walter Sisulu University students injured following an accident involving a university bus and bakkie.
Authorities said the driver of the bakkie was killed in the crash on the R-102, the old King Williams Town Road.
Fifty students were trapped inside the bus after it overturned while travelling from the Potsdam campus to East London this afternoon.
A short while ago one student was still said to be trapped inside in the bus.
One the student, Mihle Banzana, told Algoa FM news that the bakkie coming from the opposite side of the road just started driving towards them and the bus driver swerved to avoid it.
She says they could not get out of the bus until emergency service arrived.
Emergency Medical Services says about 12 of the students have broken arms, while others have abrasions and minor scratches.
