Walter Sisulu University says a final wage agreement has been concluded with labour leaders.
Spokesperson Angela Church says the agreement, concluded on Friday, will be discussed by Nehwau leaders with their members and a formal response will be given on Monday.
"Nehawu had demanded a 12% salary increase for 2012. Management has offered a non-recurring, once-off payment of 10% on basic salary for staff in 2012 but has adhered to its original position of a 0% salary increase," Church said.
"Any salary increase would have a compounding effect on WSU's fragile financial position for 2013."
She said other issues contained in the petition handed to Management by Nehawu are being addressed on an ongoing basis.
"A catch-up plan is included in the final agreement so that students will not be academically disadvantaged by the loss of teaching time," she concluded.
