There are only six Walter Sisulu University (WSU) qualifications that are either not accredited or have PQM issues.
A new academic qualification in an approved field of study needs to be consistent with the PQM, which is defined as the Programme and Qualification Mix of an institution as approved by the Minister of Higher Education and Training.
WSU and Council for Higher Education (CHE) officials were briefing Parliament's committee on Higher Education on Wednesday on how best to remedy the debacle.
CHE chief executive Dr Whitty Green said the affected qualifications include the Advanced Diploma in Internal Auditing, Advanced Diploma in Journalism, BSc Honours in Zoology, Master of Medicine in Gynecology and the Postgraduate diploma in Chemical Pathology.
He said of the six, only one qualification was not affected.
"Of the big list [of qualifications] only six of them had issues related to either accreditation and/or PQM clearance. The Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Sciences is a programme that was not offered since 2019, so it really has no issues regarding status. The institution is no longer offering that."
Dr Green says graduates who received their qualifications before 2019 have nothing to worry about.
"I want to reiterate that there is no problem with all students who were enrolled before 2019. Even those who are in the workplace, there is no question.
"There can't be any question about their status, about their qualification and so on. It's really the students who enrolled in 2020, 2021 and 2022."
The Council of Higher Education is expected to furnish the university with recommendations within a three-week time-frame.
