Police in Gqeberha are investigating a case of house robbery after an elderly couple was tied up and robbed in their home in Alcock Road in Walmer on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says two suspects, armed with a gun and knife, gained access to the house through an open sliding door.
She says at about 11 am the 78-year-old woman was busy working on her computer when the suspects tied her up with a cable tie, before ransacking the house.
Colonel Naidu says when her 80-year-old husband returned home, he too was assaulted and tied up.
The suspects left in the couple's 1999 dark blue VW Golf, a flatscreen TV, cellphones a tablet and other household items.
The husband eventually managed to untie himself and his wife and she climbed through a window to go and alert her neighbour.
The couple was taken to hospital for treatment.
